Access for Developers

Hi,

I thought I read somewhere that there is an Access developers application
that will allow you to make a database that someone can use even if he
doesn't have Access installed. If this is true can someone point me to some
information on this application? Googling on Access Developers gives me an
awful lot of information to look through. Thanks in advance for the help.

Depends on which version of Access...

You're probably looking for "Access Runtime" which is a cut-down version
of Access that can be freely distributable. For 2002/2003, one had to
buy a Developer package and I *think* it was with Visual Studio nowadays
(used to be Microsoft Office Developer package but that package is
discontinued, hence it being part of a certain Visual Studio).

Alternatively, grab a license of 2007 and you can download and use
Access 2007 runtime freely. I've seen posts claiming that one can even
just go ahead and use runtime for 2007 without buying Access 2007 and
it'd run for 2002/2003 but I'm hesitant to say this is actually legal.
If in doubt, I'd probably just call Microsoft Sales and ask them off the
bat.

I'm under the impression that Microsoft isn't selling the Developer Edition
of those versions. You might want to check directly with Microsoft ...
