Access Expression builder is missing fields

Everything I have read about the expression builder seems to allow you to
select the fields along with functions. Mine does not have it. I am trying
to create a defualt value int eh properties of a form using the expression
builder. The fields are not there. When I manually type them in I get
errors.

Any Ideas?

A bit more information might help...

Are you saying that you want to make a default value "of a form" (?what does
that mean? - controls and fields have default values, not forms) based on
values of fields shown in controls on that form?

Where are you trying to do this (i.e., what screen, design view, etc.)?
