access denied

Graham

Hi,
i'm trying to transfer data from my laptop harddrive to my
PC (after spilling water over the laptop!). I'm using
portable USB HDD drive to hold the laptops HD.

I can copy all the files except for the ones i really need
i.e. the ones in the documents and settings directory. On
my laptop i had an account setup as Graham, which had a
password.
Now it wont allow me to to copy it over - saying access is
denied.
I've tried setting up an identical account on the pc and
logging on as this user - but no success
Ive also tried setting the read only attributes in dos but
without success. Any ideas?
Thanks
Graham
