Hi,
I am the sole user of my laptop, and regularly perform various administrator
functions without a problem. i have just tried designating a new program as
my PDF default program and I am getting an error that I can't modify hkey
classes root/.pdf as access is denied. I have uninstalled Acrobat reader so
at this point, it isn't "in the way". How do I fix this?
Thanks!

Right click on the install program and choose the "run as" option.

Select Administrator and try that.

Thanks Dobey, that didn't work. In fact I can't add the key manually either
as I am getting an error that I don't have permission.

Dobey,
I got it! I had to right click on the folder and grant permission for it
within the registry (.pdf and the subfolder). Why I had to do that I have no
idea, but it is fixed!
so many thanks for your help!
Sue
