Access Denied

I am running a workgroup with two machines on a router connected to a DSL
modem. AXP is a workstation. BXP is a portable. Both are running Windows
XP Professional Service Pack 2. All disk drives on each machine are marked
as share and allow remote users to update. I have the same account/password
set on each machine with administrator privilege.

From BXP I can access all files on BXP and AXP.
From AXP I can access all files on AXP and some files on BXP. I get access
denied if I attempt to access "Program Files" or "Windows" on BXP from AXP.

What is the obvious setting I am overlooking that will allow me to access
ALL files on BXP from AXP?

Thom,

Is BXP running Simple, or Advanced File Sharing? Inability to access
"C:\Program Files" and "C:\Windows" sounds like Guest authentication (remember
Guest is a non-administrative user).

On any XP Pro computer, check to see if Simple File Sharing (Control Panel -
Folder Options - View - Advanced settings) is enabled or disabled. With XP Pro,
you need to have SFS properly set on each computer.

On XP Pro with SFS disabled, check the Local Security Policies (Control Panel -
Administrative Tools). Under Local Policies - Security Options, look at
"Network access: Sharing and security model", and ensure it's set to "Classic -
local users authenticate as themselves".

On XP Pro using Simple File Sharing, or using Advanced File Sharing with the LSP
set as "Guest only", you can setup matching accounts if you wish. But you'll
authenticate as Guest, and be limited to non-administrative access, when
accessing thru the network.

And Thom, please don't contribute to the spread and success of email address

Thank you VERY much.

That exactly what my problem was and when I turned it off I then gained
access to the folders.

I lost the hard drive on BXP and used it as an opportunity to rebuild the
disk from scratch. As soon as you mentioned it I rebreed going down this
road before. That option is IMHO located in about as obscure a location as
I can think.

Thanks again.

MP, Thom. I had exactly the same thought when someone here told me about that
setting. When I was having your experience.

The neat thing is, there are half a dozen other settings that can cause similar
problems, and some can only be adjusted in the registry.

That's why this OS is named eXPerience, I guess.
