Access denied message on folder

I had to reinstall my XP pro. I have a hard drive
partitioned into two drives. My files and data were on
the none system drive. After I reinstalled, I can't get
access to the old My Documents (doesn't say My Documents,
name is replaced with my name.) When I look at the
properties, it says there are no files in the folder. If
I try to open the folder I get an Access Denied message.
How do I go about gaining access back to this directory
and all the files that should be there (or were they
really deleted when I reinstalled XP on the C drive
(again, this folder is on the D drive but seems to have
been emptied. ). Thanks for any help
