Access denied after reinstall.

I know we've seen this here before guys:

Reinstall of windows. Can see old user folder under Documents And
Setting but get access denied.

OK : lots of emails say to 'take ownership' : I understand that this
is a XP Professional thing and I only have XP Home so I'm stuffed
there?

I've also tried CACLS from cmd prompt but still get it.

Any ideas (or am I completed up the creek...?)

Taking ownership works in XP Home as well as in XP Pro. See the article
that Chris refers you to for directions on how to do this.
