Access 97 and Converting to and from

Hi, I have had the joyful experience of having to install both Access 97 and
2000 on one machine recently and it has got my brain cells thinkning about
Access (thanks to knwledge base I got it too work!!!). I want to know if
there is a resource that can explain exactly what goes on with Access 97 and
2000 when you convert from one to the other and back again. I don't really
understand why the problems occur, and would like to have a deeper
understanding. I am not overly technical so need the 'guide for dummies'
version. I know there is something to do with bindings and the way vb script
behaves but that's it. Can anyone help?

hi,
you can convert from 97 to 2k but it is a one way street.
you cannot convert back to 97.
2k will open a 97 db and you can operate in it but you
cannot make changes to the code or tables without
converting it to 2k. once converted...no going back to 97.
i am not sure if 97 will open a 2k db. i do know that 2k
uses a completely different fileing system than 97.
the 2k file system is used in all access after 2k or at
least to xp.

Yes you can convert back to 97. All versions of Access from 2000 to 2003
allow you to convert to Access 97 format. It's under Tools | Database
Utilities on the menu bar.
