access 2003 on vista

i have an access 2003 database created on xp that i have put onto 2 seperate
vista machines. the database being in mde format. when i delete the old mde
file and replace it with a new mde file with the same name. the old deleted
file always opens. im unable to replace the old mde file with a new one of
the same name.

i've tried deleting all instances of the old mde file but i still seems to
be on vista somewhere? this is very confusing?

does anyone know how to replace an mde file on a vista machine.

How are you opening the file? via a shortcut? If so have you tried recreating
the shortcut?

I've never heard of this happening before.

ive tried the shortcut and clicking on the file directly.

Grasping at straws here: Does Vista perhaps believe another process has
the file open when you delete it, so "pends" the delete until all
processes close the .mde?
