MS has posted a hotfix for the Access 2003 and Vista issue --
KB935366 Has anyone tried it? Is Access 2003 using Vista stable?
Are there other major issues to be concerned with?

thanks in advance...

Hum, that hotfix is only for multi-user use on vista, and ONLY if your
experiencing that problem.

I installed access 97, a2000, and a2003 on vista..and they all ran just
fine.

Are you experiencing the above mentioned problem? Or, are you in a
mutli-user environment with a2003?

Most, if any issues with vista will center around user permissions, and if
you allow users to run with elevated permissions. If you use the same
permission levels that your used to with windows xp, then you usually not
have any problems.

Yes, I am in a multi user environment - split FE/BE in Access 2003.
The back end is on a Windows 2003 standard server. The front ends are
on Windows XP and soon to be Vista. Before Vista gets rolled out, I
wanted to see if there were any issues. Based on the KB article, it
seems like people have had there databases killed by the bug.
Therefore, I wanted to see if the hotfix fies the issue.

Ah, ok...this is good!!

That hotfix would only be for the back end, and if the mdb is placed on a
vista machine. So, for the fronts end, that kb article does not apply, and
since your back end is not on a vista box, then you ok.

if you sharing the back end on a vista box, then yes...it does.....

I thought Win2K3 server supported SMB2? If it does, then that would
mean it would cause the problem with Vista clients, no?

it states that W2k3 supports SMB 1.0 and not 2. Therefore, Albert --
where do you see if the BE mdb is stored on a w2003 server and the
front ends are on either XP SP2 or Vista that you will not have an
issue? I thought the issue described in the article applies to FE
Vista clients accessing shared BE MDB's.

Thanks...

Well, that's how I read the KB article

<quote>
Access may stop responding when you open a remote database that is already
open on another Windows Vista-based computer.

I am assuming they talking about the back end being on a Vista computer. The
above is certainly not 100% clear in this regards. (so, I could be wrong). I
not really sure why the problem would exist if the file is on a win 2003
server, as it is the networking of the server that opens the file.

So, sure, it possible the issue does apply if the remote file is on any type
of computer..even a windows 98 file share. However, that is not how I am
reading this. They seemed quite specific that they are talking about the
location of the file being on a vista computer.

And, I suppose at the end of the day, there is hotfix available anyway.
