Acceptible Temps

My new home-built PC os up and running. W00T!!

Now I'm in the tweaking phase. I'm not even going to think about
overclocking yet, but I'm focusing on cooling with my existing settings. My
ASUS Windows utility shows the temp for the CPU, mobo, and both graphics
cards (NVIDIA 7800GT).

At idle for about an hour:
CPU: 31 degrees C
mobo: 36
GPU 1: 39
GPU 2: 36

I haven't played any games yet, but is there some kind of guideline as to
what the temp limits are. I'll be running a lot of tests tomorrow and I want
to make sure that I don't to push too hard.

Thanks!

FOR THE LOVE OF ****ING GOD WILL YOU PLEASE DO YOUR OWN ****ING
RESEARCH?

These temp threads pop up 100 times a week in this newsgroup. Google
will return millions of hits. The bulletin boards are full of them. The
web forums are full if them. THE SPECS ARE ON THE ****ING
MANUFACTURERS WEBSITE.

AND THE ****ING ANSWER IS THE SAME EVERY TIME SOMEONE ASKS.

Are you stupid? Do you have a brain? Are you incapable of thinking for
yourself?

Oh dear.....someone has picked a bad day to give up smoking !!!

But he has a point though.... you dont post you case make, CPU type, mobo
model, etc.... all those things contribute to the variables in the equation.
If you PC is in a fridge then it will be different to operating it in your
living room..... or sauna!!! Do the research...access the websites
applicable to the hardware items that make up your homebuilt, dig down to
the tech.specs.... and a bit of googling.

Proper temperature guidelines are between 'Good'(no burning smell) and
'NFG' (****ing toast).

Look it up.

ROTFLMAO!!!! Holy crap, Conor!! If a newsgroup post can make you THAT upset,
maybe you should seek seek some therapy.....or get laid. Sorry for posting
such a stupid question. It was late, the cappacino had worn off, and my
first home-built PC was up and running. I was caught up in the moment and
wasn't thinking clearly. My apologies......

Dude....it's only life. Chill out!!

If you were asked the same question which has the same reply and to
which the answer can be found in about 0.5 seconds some 500,000 times,
would you get a bit fed up?

Absolutley not. I LOVE helping people. I do it every day in my profession. I
don't spend my life in newsgroups and I'm not an expert on building PC's. I
don't know what questions are blatently obvious to the rest of you. I also
didn't see any posts on this "temp" topic in this newsgroup (in the last 2
weeks, at least). If I missed it, sorry. I also couldn't find any good info
on Google....and I DID look. Maybe I'm not as good at web searches as you
are.

Hell, I didn't even know how to detect temperatures in a PC until 2 days
ago. I've always bought name brand PCs (no temp sensors). But you know what?
With some help from people this newsgroup (AND some help from Google), I put
together a kick-ass gaming PC and learned a hell of a lot.

Here is an example of how you could have responded to my "stupid" question:

Done!! Look how much time you could have saved by being helpful instead of
being an A$$. I'm not going to waste any more time or space in this thread.
I've said my peace. Thanks to everyone who helped me out these past few
weeks.

Todd,

If your processor is an Intel CPU Intel's website lists complete
technical specs on all their products. You will need the Model and
possibly the Serial Number to pull up your processor's specs from
Intel's database. If you purchased a retail boxed cpu, not oem there
should be some documentation that came with the cpu.

I've never worked with AMD so I can't help you other than to suggest
that AMD provides similar information at their website.

It truly would have been helpful to those trying to help if you had
provided Make/Model information on your CPU, Case and Motherboard. I
can see why someone would get upset. There are thousands of Motherboard
/ CPU combinations some even have different versions within the same
Model. Surely, you can't hope to get safe thermal range information
appropriate to your build without this critical information? You
wouldn't expect a doctor to give you instructions on how to take a
medication without a prescription that says which medication.

As you said, it was late and the caffeine was on the wain. I'll buy
that, but what is your reason for not providing Make/Model information
further down the thread? At this point, all I can do is give you the
answer that "Big Think" gave in "Hitchhikers Guide to The Galaxy",...
"42".

Hi Brian,

I should have referred to my previous posts that included all of my system specs....or included my system specs in my new post.or included my specs in my Sig. Live and learn. I definitely will be more careful the next time I post a question in here.

However, regardless of the questions asked by "anybody" .. "DO YOUR OWN F'N RESEARCH!!!" is not a very productive response. Asking a question to a bunch of experts in a newsgroup, in my opinion, IS doing research. If a question can be found on a million web sites or information is missing in the question .then just say that. Like I stated previously, 2 weeks ago I didn't know squat about PC building, PC cooling, or the fact that different mobos and VGAs had different temp ranges. My PC is now up and running and kicks major butt. My eyes are still bloodshot from this weekend's gaming marathon.

I think too many people mistake laziness for ignorance. I am by no means lazy, but I am ignorant on certain subjects (like PC cooling). Now that I know more about the subject, I can help others... AND I will never say ""DO YOUR OWN F'N RESEARCH!!!"

Peace.
