Since upgrading to Vista I have a scanner that does not work, a print server
that does not workand a TV card that does not work. All these are
supposedly compatible with Vista. Oh, nearly forgot my DVD drive can't be
set to use DMA any more.

Did you by chance run the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor? If those items were
not compatible, it would have let you know before you upgraded. Have you
checked with all of the manufacturers for updated drivers?

Before you blame the OS, were you able to install updated Vista drivers for
your scanner, printer or print server and TV card? I'm not sure about the
DVD DMA issue.

You need to go and get updated drivers for your hardware.

Have you looked on the manufacturers web sites for Vista compatible drivers?

What sort of print server do you have?

Have you downloaded and installed the Vista-specific device drivers from
each device's manufacturer's web site?

no it wouldn't...
UA is just a marketing tool

many people here (myself included) found out the hard way.

I ran the upgrade advisor. I have downloaded what purport to be Vista
drivers for all my hardware. End result? Half my hardware doesn't work.

exactly
UA is just a marketing tool, and not a very good one.

And what do the device manufacturers have to say when you tell them that
their drivers don't work? This isn't really a Windows issue at all, you
know.

Thanks Bruce you are correct, this is not caused by a malfunctioning OS. The
UA is a good tool, just remember that a program that "might" cause a problem,
will cause a problem, same with hardware.

Well why shouldn't UA be a marketing tool? It's running on a toy operating
system that was ONLY released for marketing reasons.

Pretty vague on your hardware if you were more specific with
make/model numbers of each piece we might be able to help find the
correct drivers for you. Or at least point you in the right direction
to resolve your issues.

Are you talking about XP, because there would be no reason to run the

Doris has no idea what "it" is talking about. Doris is a linux loser
troll from trash dot who was turned down for employment by MS (couldn't
even pass the PPT!) and hasn't had a good Day since.
Of course, we've known for years that Doris was nothing but an empty
airhead.

what worked for me on the printer/scanner situation
was to unpack the files to a known location, if ZIP files just unzip and note the address.
then using Device Manager, perform an update driver function for the devices and point to the UNZIP location.

my epson multi function now works after performing the install this way.

you might want to check for a firmware update for the DVD, know I had to.

Umm, that's not "entirely" accurate. UA WILL identify any known issues with
devices and installed software prior to upgrade. It certainly doesn't find
everything and it certainly may not be 100 pct accurate but it certainly is
better than anything else available.

You may take with a grain of salt whether or not you believe what it
indicates insofar as what version of Vista may be supported on the hardware
but I personally wouldn't ignore what it tells you in regards to devices or
software you have that have issues.

Just my two cents.
