i have recently got this virus and took the steps needed
to stop my computer from restarting itself, but i still
have the virus. i have downloaded the patch i need to from
windows but it will not work as it says my computer is not
initialised and that my cryptographic server is not
working, but i have found out that it is working. because
of this problem my internet has been suspended (im on a
public computer) so i would like to know what phone number
i should ring to speak to someone about this in the UK
that is free.
thanks
Joe

If your computer is constantly attempting to shutdown
or reboot, quickly go to:

Start > Run and type: CMD , and hit enter.
This opens the Command Prompt window.

Then type: shutdown -a , and hit enter.

This should halt the rebooting problem.

Then immediately turn-on Windows XP's built-in Firewall:

I had the same problem this is what u have to do, find ur
windows folder and find system32 folder, go into it and
find catroot, that is the patch file, delete it and
reinstall the patch. This will install the patch.

Rename the folder windows\system32\catroot2 and reboot. That will
generate a new, clean folder, and you can then delete the renamed one.

Make sure you have the firewall on, just in case, at Network
Connections, r-click your connection, Properties, and check on the
Advanced page, before going to look for patches

In due course get Q817287 and install it, which should now be OK. It is
the cure for the problem: you should then be able to carry on with
other updates, and the problem will not recur

Get the VBS script to clean up Blast (RPC exploit) and check from
Kelly's site, at
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_qr.htm#rpc

That includes a link to the more recent version of the blast patch -
or

(first of the downloads)
