About setting a restore point....

I have a question...
I know and work with a large number of people who aren't so savvy when it
comes to computer maintenance...Inevitably I get a call the computer is
messed up, can you fix it?
Generally I get the system back to "normal"( usually just ridding the
machine of a load of spyware and startup programs running).
I then usually turn off system restore and the on again to delete all stored
points and then create one myself so the owner can easily reset the system
back to "clean".
BUT I wonder...are restore points that are manually created ever deleted
because of lack of space?( as set in system properties?) or are the
(older)points that are purged only the ones set automatically by the system?
Thanks

All system restore points are purged eventually. It doesn't matter
whether they are manually created or not. If you have a lot of clients,
you may want to image their drive/partition onto an external hard drive
(one you keep, not them) instead. Then all you need to do for the next
visit is back up their data and image the machine.

There is a specific amount of disc space allocated to storing Restore
Points. When it becomes full, adding a restore point causes the older ones
to be deleted until there is room for the new one.
You -can- increase the storage space and thus how many points can be
stored, but ... remember, restoring puts a lot of things back to the date of
that restore, so things done AFTER the point restored to may not work right,
some files might actually disappear, and some might come back that have been
removed, etc..
In its most basic form, a restore point is a registry stage. There's
more to it, but if you know a little about the registry you'll understand
the problems better.
