about selling a program again

soneone said that it ok to sell your program in excel,
my follow up question is, what about the ligality?
should i patent it or copyright it?

In order to obtain valid patent protection it would be necessary for you to
demonstrate, inter alia, that your Excel application comprises improvements
on the state of the art which are both novel and useful and go beyond what
any ordinary skilled programmer could produce.

If you truly believe that your application fulfils these criteria, you
should contact a Patent Attorney. If not, you must settle for the protection
offered by copyright

Of course you can legally sell your programming for the user to use with
their excel.
Patent is a bit much but AFAIK copyright is automatic. Here is some info.
