Able to preserve value of variable after closing excel?

I would like to have a detail page (on a userform) appear upon opening an
add-in for the first time, but then the user can check a box on the form to
not have it show again.

Is there a way to preserve the value of a variable after excel is closed?

You can save it in the Registry. See help for SaveSetting and GetSetting.
