abreviations summary list at the beginning of my document.

First tell us how you define an 'abbreviation'. Do you mean an 'acronym', as
in 'a word consisting of three or more upper case letters'? Could it be only
two upper case letters, or could it contain digits? Would you expect the
document to contain other words that you consider to be 'abbreviations' but
that don't fit this definition?
