aaaaggghhh!!!!! networking issues 98se and XP home

I have:

varified hardware working (using hub, cables)... varified
different names for computers... ran network wiz on xp,
ran the floppy the wiz makes on 98se... varified same
protocols in use on both... even enabled ixp on both...
disabled xp firewall and Norton on both...

result:

both can see themselves in neighborhood (or xp equivelent)
but not each other...

any help Greatly appreciated...
