A7V8X-X problems

Steve Jones

Hi,

I have an A7V8X-X with ATHLON XP2200+ processor, 512 MB of PC2100 memory
and a 400w PSU.

If I put the processor speed to 1800Mhz by setting the frequency to 133MHz
and set a multiplier of 13.5 - memtest86 flags loads of errors.

If I take the BIOS defaults (1350MHz processor) memtest86 is happy.I can
then format my hard disk but the system allways fails at some point during
the installation of WIN98, usually during the file copy stage.

I have swapped out the PSU, memory, disk and cd rom with no effect.

Any ideas?

Cheers, Steve.

If you have trouble loading the operating system, the problem is usually RAM
related.

Hi,

i have the same board with PC2700 and Barton 2500+
and it runs well with FSB = 162 and multi = 13
With FSB 166, wich should be the standard for PC2700,
i had the same problems you described.
So try it with FSB set to 130 and let the multiplier at 13,5

bye,
Helmut

Are you sure you have PC2100 memory? The memtest obviously points to your
memory's inability to hit rated speed. Check that you have the speed set to
'By SPD' in the chip configuration section of the bios. If it is set to By
SPD and still not working you might try manual settings, whatever the RAM is
rated. Try some other memory if you can. Also make sure it's seated
properly.
