a7v8x-x installation

Hi,

Forgive what will appear to be a silly question, but I've recently
purchased an ASUS A7V8X-X motherboard along with a new processor and
other bits and pieces to build into a new PC to replace my incredibly
old P200 PC.

I'm struggling to fit the six wires into the System Panel connector
from the case. I've looked at the diagram in the manual which on the
face of it appears great, but maybe I'm not the brightest but I can't
get it to work. From what I've been told, this is always a tricky
bit, getting the polaritys the right way round etc etc but I didn't
fancy trying it 956 different combinations as I would eventually break
something :) hency my question here.

I have six wires described below

Speaker - four pins wide with black and red wires at the end
Power LED - 3 pins wide with green and white wires
HDDLED- 2 pins wide with orange and white wires (+ and - respectively)
sleepsw - 2 pins wide with green and black wires (+ and - respectivly)
standby - 2 pins wide with blue and white wires (+ and - respectivly)
ResetSW - 2 pins wide both of which are grey.

which ones absolutely have to be plugged in to get some activity from
my motherboard other than the little green light. And exactly where
do they have to go.

Hope that somebody can help or guide me to previous questions and
answers.

Thanks

Mike

The only connector you do need to plug in order to power on, is PoWeR (ATX
Power switch), look in your manual chapter 1, section 12 for a detailed
description of each pin, and how to connect them. That PWR connector on
motherboard should be connected with the powerbutton in your casing. If
thats all wires you have, you will probably have to use the "sleep switch",
although its a slight uncommon name for it, and connect it to PWR on
motherboard.

Again, check the manual so you know how to connect the rest aswell.

Download the manual here if you dont already have it
http://www.asuscom.de/pub/ASUS/mb/socka/kt400/a7v8x-x/e1198_a7v8x-x.pdf

Last page of section one (page 30) has a nice diagram on how they plug in.

Speaker plug - can go either way round.
Power LED - One way the LED will light up the other way it won't, you won't
hurt it if you get it the wrong way round, the LED just won't light.
Reset Switch - can go either way round
ATX Power Switch - can go either way round
HDD LED - One way the LED will light up the other way it won't, you won't
hurt it if you get it the wrong way round, the LED just won't light.

I have not come across 'sleep or standby' connectors but I would guess that
the sleep ones go across the SMI pins according to the manual.

You only need the Power switch connected for the board to work.

Thanks for your help, I did as you said and plugged the PWR lead in
only and Hey Presto, everything kicked into action :) Now I can
move onto plugging everything else in and you never know, sometime
before Xmas, I may have a new PC up and running.

Thanks again

Tinchazo

Hi to all. My name is Tincho, and I from Argentina. I apologize for my
poor english, but I need your help, people.

As Mike, I have the same motherboard, an ASUS A7v8x-x. I try to
connect all System Panel wires, but I can´t to figure how. I have the
manual, but the problems focus in the COLORS of these wires:

These are:

IDE Led: 2 pins wide with white and yellow wires.
Power Led: 3 pins wide with green and white wires.
Power SW: 2 pins wide with black and white wires.
Reset SW: 2 pins wide with orange and white wires.
Speaker: 4 pins wide with black and red wires at the end.

I´m unable to find out what of these wires are for GNRD (ground) or
wich of them are the positive and negative.....the manual says how to
connect them, but don´t say wich COLOR is for positive, negative,
etc.... .

I hope to resolve this problem with your assistence.

Thanks to all!!.... .

Tinchazo.

Tincho,

The White wires are ground. (-)

The Red wire for the Speaker in Positive and black is ground.

Hope this helps
Ron
