A7V8X-X graphics card recomendations

Steve Jones

Hi,

I'm puzzled by the statement in the A7V8X-X user's manual that says the
board only supports 1.5 volt graphics cards and yet the bios allows you to
setup for AGP 1x, 2x, 4x and 8x.

I thought that AGP 1x and 2x use 3.3 volt signaling, AGP 4x uses 1.5 volt
and AGP 8x uses 0.8 volt.

Can someone please explain?

I'd also appreciate any recommendations for mid-range and high-end AGP cards
that are compatible with this board.

Thanks, Steve.

Hi Steve,
I have the A78NX-X, which is the same voltage as yours for the AGP. and i
use a GFORCE FX5600 X8 AGP with no problems whatsoever
hope this helps RobL

Yeah I wondered about that as well, the guys at the computer shop didn't
seem to know if there cards were 1.5 volt or not. I ended up with a FX5200
128mb 8xAGP. I think any newer card with 8xAGP will do the 1.5volt. I did
manage to find information on some of the card makers websites as to weather
or not they use 1.5volt. You might have to check with the manufacturers web
site once you have a card in mind.
Good luck.

Hi, all the most recent cards are ok, I'd say ones for the last 2 years at
least, including 4x. However more depends on what you want the card do, i.e.
my 'older' Ti4200P turbo easily outperformed my FX5600 Ultra. I've just
pre-ordered a ATI 9800TX which is about as quick as you can get at the
moment....

Here's my own AGP card (which I paid $320...it now sells for around $83)
It's an eVGA model FWIW.
It has worked great with WIN98SE, W2K, and XPPRO.
