HI,
I just got this a7v333 rev 1.01 board. Since I have not booted up yet I
don;t know the bios version. I would like to get a atholon xp-2200 it,
will it run at least enough to boot up and change bios ? What the best
option for cpu in this case
I do not have any other compatible cpu to boot up with.
Any idea's or suggestions

Thanks
Dominick

You can check here too.

Check the chips on your motherboard. Sometimes there will be a sticker
on top of the flash EEPROM with a BIOS release number on it. Then compare
the release number to the cpusupport table, to see which processor
you can run before upgrading the BIOS.

If you don't have any other resources at hand, you could also consider
contacting www.badflash.com (or a company like it) and picking up
another BIOS chip. As long as the BIOS chip is socketed, you can buy
one which is flashed with a later version of the BIOS and just plug
it in. For PLCC chips, it helps to have an extractor tool to pull out
the BIOS chip. In a pinch you can use a pointed object to do the job,
but you have to be careful not to damage the socket while doing it.

"Hot flashing" using a motherboard which uses the same kind of flash
chip can also solve this problem, but I would only recommend it if
the flash chip is a dual in line plastic package (DIP). The chip must
be easy to put into the socket and pull out again (of the donor
motherboard, while the donor is powered!), so for chips which are
hard to deal with like the PLCC (four sided) devices, I wouldn't
recommend it without something like a BIOS Savior adapter socket.
This is not something that one of your friends is likely to own.

Obviously, if you have access to a PROM burner, this problem will be
easy to solve.

HTH,
Paul
