A7V266-E locks up in UT2004??

Bill

My A7V266-E has worked great with games in the past but now I get a
hard lockup about 4-5 minutes into every game of UT2004 that I play.
I could play hours on the demo with no problems though....

I did install a new boot drive this week due to a hard drive failure
and I figured that it might be the version of the Via AGP driver that
was at fault. So I have tried them one by one and it still locks up.

Here's my setup if anyone can offer some pointers I would be most
appreciative

A7V266-E w/1015.003 Beta bios
Radeon 9800 Pro w/128MB DDR memory (latest drivers)
1024 PC2100 Kingston DDRAM
WD 120GB SE HDD
Via 4in1443 drivers
Windows XP w/SP1
DirectX 9.0b
24" Samsung LCD

AGP write combining in the Radeon drivers has been turned on and off
to test and it still locks up. AGP fast write is enabled in the bios
and the AGP aperture is set at 256MB. The ATI control panel shows me
running at 4X AGP. I'm running the game at 1900x1080 in 32 bit color
with normal settings.

I've also got a MS Multimedia keyboard and MS Intellimouse Explorer
attached but I don't think that is the problem..hah

It's possible that your power supply is underpowered to drive your system
with the energy hungry 9800 during the demanding 3D UT2004, along with the
new larger(?) harddrive.

To test power or temperature problems, get a copy of MBM5 (Motherboard
Monitor), as it has a logging ability. You can leave MBM5 running in
the background while you are gaming. By setting MBM5 to record the
temperatures and voltages on the motherboard, while the game is running,
you might get some indication if the CPU is overheating, or the
PS outputs are sagging during game play.

HTH,
Paul
