A7N8X Rev 2 Deluxe - No Boot Problem

P

paul.corre

I have a A7N8X Rev 2 Deluxe MB. One small problem - the is no life. With
the power connected the green standby light on the board comes on with.
When the power button is pressed there is no response except for all the
fans coming on, so I don't think it is the power supply.

I have taken out of the cards and left just the RAM and CPU (2600+) and
still no beeps. Even with just the CPU in there are no beeps. Also tried
without the CPU - no beeps.

I am going beeping mad. Everything was working fine before hand.

Is the MB dead?

What else can I try?

Thanks for any help.

Sounds like a dead CPU to me. Can you get your hands on a different one for
testing purpose?? Sounds like it to me....

1. Reseat the ATX 20 pin Pwr Connctor on the motherboard.
2. Connect powered speakers and listen to the Voice Reporter.
3. Clear the CMOS.

Don't give up on the power supply being bad. They have been known to
work one day and not the next. More so with the cheap ones.

It is possible to have part of the PSU working, like the 12v rail, but
not the 5v. I had the very same problem where the fans turned but no
boot. Replace PSU, it works. It's sitting not 5 feet from me right
now. Though not the one I'm writing this on.

This is where you want to swap parts with something that is working.
Alos, did you pull it out of the case and just put it on a box and try
again? May there is a short in the case somewhere?

And yes, as someone else wrote, reset the bios. I think you can get
away with holding the insert key as you turn it on.

The default in the BIOS is to have error reporting with the voice system,
rather than speaker beeps. Connect up a speaker to the audio outputs and
see what it is saying. I'd start with a bare board - nothing on it - and
see if it reports "No CPU". Then add memory, VGA card, etc.
