A7N8X-E Deluxe and SATA RAID 0 not working!!!

OK, here is tough problem. I would love to see if someone knew the
anweser to this. I just got this board from my buddy, he has never had
it set up with RAID.

I have two identical 250GB Maxtor hard drives that show up in the BIOS.
I have the RAID array created and set for Striping. I left the settings
on default. The total space shows up in this RAID screen, 470GB.

But when I do a clean install of Windows XP, after hitting F8 to agree
to the license agreement, it Windows sees two hard drives, and not the
1 giant drive it should. It's almost like the RAID 0 setup hasn't been
applied or something, but it's there, and it shows up in the RAID
software setup menu. I tested mirroring, and that worked. But not
striping. I have no clue what to do. Both hard drives are SATA 2 if
that makes a difference. I'm totally lost here.

Not to mention though, now my AMD 2500 Mobile shows up as a 1Ghz CPU
now, but I wont worry about that.

Did you install the SIL3112 RAID driver via pressing F6 ?

You mean in the Silicon Image RAID bios menu, yes?

I have the RAID array created and set for Striping. I left the settings

If you end up redoing the array, you might consider setting
a different stripe size than the default as it's often too
small for optimal performance (though I don't recall the
default).

Check your RAID bios menu again to confirm there is only one
array present with two members (each of these two drives) in
it.

What you describe does seem right, like they should be a
single array but nothing you mentioned reveals the reason
why Windows isn't liking it. The controller should make
these two drives invisible to XP already, windows should
only see this as a *SCSI* (-like) volume.

If you need email notifications of replies then you're as
well off posting this to a web forum that provides that
"new-post" notification by email feature. Most people won't
email you and you should be glad, some threads end up long
and even troll infested for various reasons.

Presumably it's running as 6X multiplier on a 166MHz/DDR333
FSB, because a mobile CPU defaults to 6X, needs this
adjusted in the motherboard bios menus (or jumpers rarely,
but IIRC that board has it in the menu and mobile chips
aren't multiplier locked). If you have PC3200 memory you
should try running it on 200MHz/DDR400 FSB, with whatever
multiplier you want - depending on whether you're shooting
for stock speed or some degree of overclocking, as it'll
probably o'c at least past 2.2GHz with only a minor voltage
(vcore) increase.
