A7N8x dlx Lan problems still

Still having problems with A7N8x dlx onboard Lans.
Tried both but now it seems the Nvidia one and the 3Com one will not talk to
my modem.
All I get is an ip address of 0.0.0.0
If I enter details into the config part for the Nvidia or 3com then it works
and I can connect.
Only 10M Lan
100M Lan will not work.
Also will only work as 10M half duplex.
Reckon it's time to get a Lan card.
Any thoughts??

Maybe a faulty modem or cable? I use both on two seperate
100Mbps full duplex LANs - the nVidia seems slightly faster.
Do you have latest chipset drivers installed?

Sorry - just saw earlier thread. Make sure DHCP is set to ON
on your modem, otherwise you'll have to manually set everything.
Don't trust auto media detection on ANY ethernet device - set
this manually to 100Mbps half duplex (or whatever). Are you
sure your modem LAN port is 10/100 compatible (many are
only 10)?

Yes it is.
Yes to second one.
Tried a pci network card, that behaves the same way.

I think it must be that the LAN side of your modem is faulty -
any chance you could test it at a friends house?

I had a problem like this. Got the ADSL modem from the phone
company, plugged it in, sync lights worked, but no service.
Turned out that the interface on the concentrator at the phone
company had not been enabled (kinda half installed). All
the usernames and passwords in the world, wouldn't have got
me connected.

Check with your provider, as to whether they can see the unit
while it is powered up and connected on your end.

Since you have the sync light, I guess that means the filter
is being used on the phone side, and the ADSL modem goes
directly to the phone line ?

So far I have tried 2 different Network cards(onboard), a new PCI network
card and two new CAT5 cables.
Up to date drivers where needed.
Nothing..............
regardless of what card nothing works as it should.
If enter ip and subnet into the Network adapter setting and save then it
works.
If I try to use it where it is supposed to get those settings then nothing.

OK, maybe I didn't read the original description of the problem
well enough. You are saying assigning a private address, like
192.168.x.x to your machine works or assigning a public address
that your provider gave you, is working ? (Maybe if it is
bridged or something, the public address you use, is the same
one used on the other side of your ADSL box.)

Have a look at this thread (click Complete Thread) - it
discusses some of the protocols used:

http://groups.google.com/[email protected]

On my computer, without a router, I needed a piece of software to
terminate PPPOE (typical North American standard). With a router,
the router can do the termination and also can have a DHCP server.

Is it possible you have to use your web browser and connect
to the router and set it up ? Maybe it has an admin interface
at http://192.168.1.1 ? Maybe you need to enable DHCP in there,
set up authentication in the router, so the router sends
user/password info when needed ?

Does the manual have any details on what you have to set up ?

The thread above mentions the ability of the telco to admit
ADSL service based on a MAC address (the hardware ID in a
network card or in the router's WAN side interface).

Unless the service you are using has extensive documentation,
it is hard to guess just which part of this is broken.
It sounds like either the router box or your provider has a DHCP
issue... Or maybe the service you signed up for, specifically
doesn't use DHCP.

I took a look at the plus.net service, and they mention having
a DHCP like option and a static address option. Is the IP and
subnet you are entering, your public IP address ? Are you using
a private IP address picked at random from the valid private
address ranges ?

A little more detail would help, or give your provider a call.
I know tech support on these services is abysmal (mine kept
telling me to "wait till tomorrow", to see if the trouble
cleared up). If it is a plus.net service, maybe you could
walk us through what service you've signed up for, and
what equipment (brand/model number) has been delivered to
you in the way of a modem and/or router. I see plus.net
has a USB and an Ethernet equipment option.

Hi,
regarding my network card/ethernet modem problems.
First a bit about my fun and games...

Have always used usb adsl modems til now and have changed to using the
X-modem with a built in Nework card in my pc.
Had loads of problems where the card and modem were not talking to each
other.
Main problem was that though the network card was set to obtain an ip
address it just would not.
Tried all sorts of things including setting ip address and stuff manual.
That worked and then stopped.
Tried new cat5 cable and network card, same...
How I fixed it....

Went into windows XP services and set DHCP client to auto and now the
network card/modem gets an ip address without me having to enter it.

So one problem solved .
Second problem.....
for a while the modem/card would connect automatically(I did not have to
enable the Local area connection)Now I have to all the time.
Any thoughts on this?
Thanks.
