A REQUIRED SPACE BETWEEN 2 characters that need to be together

I used to use COMMAND + SPACE KEY to designate a "required space" between two
characters in a document like "12 feet". I need to keep the 12 and feet
together on one line. How do you do that now?

In Windows versions of Word it's Ctrl+Shift+Space.
