I have constructed a spreadsheet which runs into many rows.

When making entries I have to scroll to the point that I can see the
heading and scroll back to make an entry.

There is one menu you can right click on which can give enough
information to suss out a text dedicated column, but not a figure
dedicated column.

Am I asking too much or is there a way?

Why not use Freeze Panes to fix the header row so that it doesn't scroll?
Assuming the headers are just in row 1, select A2 and do
Windows > Freeze Panes
