Anyone knows the PDF program "Primo PDF" - a freeware? Is it OK?
QV

I have this installed and used it a few times on my other PC with
XP-SP1. IIRC it sets up a print driver which you can choose when
printing from many applications. I can't recall any specific problems
with it, maybe a minor problem with some foreign language chars
and limited options etc. But it works.

I don't have it installed on my current PC with XP-SP2 because of
limited need of it.

It works fine, but I have a slight preference for FreePDF.
Both are a bit scary the first time you use them, as the computer
appears to come to a shuddering halt when the screen goes black while
the PDF file is being 'printed'. But don't worry, all comes right in the
end.

You might also like to try 'Cute' and 'Paperless Printer'.

Depends what you're trying to achieve. I recall trying primo at some
point, but there was some sort of hiccup. I'd say that there's nothing
wrong with it as such, but I'm presently using OO.o so I don't have much
need for PDF printer. For writing purposes and such, IMO OpenOffice
build in PDF-export blows these printer drivers right out of the water.

OO produces huge pdf files, as do the other freebies. The only one
producing compact pfd files is Tomahawk, but I don't know if it still
has a free version.

'Due to the incredible amount of email we have received about the
availability of the freeware version of Tomahawk, we have decided to
once again release a 'Lite' version of Tomahawk Gold. This version can
be downloaded below and is for PERSONAL USE ONLY. Commercial usage is
strictly prohibited.'
Has reduced features from full version. Never expires.

I played around with this (never heard of it before).

It's a single no-install executable.

There's no help file. I didn't need one.

It exports to Adobe acrobat format ver 4 or ver 5 (your choice).

The author field of the exported PDF says "Tomahawk PDF freeware" and
can't be changed (see 6 below). Of course there are other tools that
can change this.

It has an import from Word doc format - works fairly well, but is
*very* slow. It did miss some page breaks, so it's not perfect.

You can't hyperlink within a file, so you can't produce a table of
contents (see 5 below).

You can't open or import pdf files themselves (see 4 below).

Here is a list of the reduced feaures, from the readme file:

The old stand alone no-install version of Tomahawk (2502) allows you to
change author field.

Also extracts text and images from pdf, text and images from .chm, tables
hyperlinks...hmm..don't see a need to buy the Gold unless you REEally
live for pdfs.
