This all started about 5 days ago when Norton's detected some spyware.

1. I started to go through the process of removing the spyware and noted that my system would not boot into safe mode (puzzling??)

2. After I updated the BIOS to the system I was able to boot into safe mode.

3. But after updating the BIOS the AGP settings got messed up (dang forgot to write them down before updating the BIOS).

4. Consequently, the system wouldn't boot past the splash screen. Only black screen.
A. Was able to boot to safe mode and updated the video driver.
B. Played around with BIOS and I now am at least able to boot into Windows XP.
C. reapplyed service pack 1
C. BUT the dang system now keeps freezing at the logon screen (and sometimes won't boot at all).

D. The workaround for now has been to remove fast user switching and the welcome screen.

DOES ANYONE have any suggestions on how to get fast user switching to work again. (Without having to re-install programs and re-create users)

Thanks,

RICK

But is there anyway to do a "repair" that portion of Windows XP. There apparently is something corrupted that is causing hang ups when fast user swithing is enabled. I'll settle for the traditional logon screen if applications need to be re-installed.
