A Fix for Camera Autoplay Window (or Camera Wizard)

Y

Yves Alarie

When you connect your camera via USB cable and you wait about 15-20
seconds for XP to recognize your camera, you hear some beeping and a window
should open. This is the Autoplay window (also called the camera Wizard by
some). When this window opens, it gives you several choices such as
downloading photo files from your camera, etc.

Many have reported a problem with this. The camera Autoplay window was
functioning properly and all of a sudden this window does not open anymore.

I won't go into the details on how many times this problem has been
posted here and the number of solutions proposed (some worked, some not). I
asked Microsoft about solving this problem and received a solution. I hope
this solution works better than other solutions previously tried.

To fix the problem you need to go to the following site and download a
small file (autofix.exe) into one of your folder. Then double click on it
and follow the directions on the screen to fix the problem.
http://www.bigblackglasses.com/staff/downloads/autofix.exe

I cannot tell you if it works or not since I never had this problem. So
if you try it please let us know if this works and your experience when
attempting to use this solution.

The Autoplay feature on my Olympus Stylus 300 (I have
Windows XP Home) has not worked properly since I
purchased it in March. I have monitored the
recommendations here for awhile and tried them all to no
avail. Nothing would work permenently. I followed the
instructions below and it ran the test and then did a
repair. It also sent me a report of the findings. I
have done 4 downloads of test photos and it autostarted
everytime. Thank you so very, very much. Bill

I hope so. Microsoft will add this fix to the knowledge base and will have a
different link to get there, but at this time this is the only link I have.

Thanks for the reply. Can you tell us the camera manufacturer and the model
number and also the memory card manufacturer and the size of this memory
card. This would help everybody.
Thanks again.

Yves,

I have an Olympus C-4000 and have used 2 cards. 128meg
Scandisk Smart Media and an Olympus 16 meg Smart Media.

I believe that I started having troubles after I
installed the Olympus Camedia Master 4.0 software. When
I connected the camera it no longer went through a choice
of where I wanted to go but forced all input to the new
program. I didn't like the new program and was forced to
uninstall it to try and get the wizard back. I don't
remember the exact sequence that followed but I was able
to start the wizard by doing something in my computer to
the temporary drive that is present when the camera is
detected. That no longer works.

Hope the above helps.

Don
