"A" Drive problems

Benji

Hi

Whenever I insert a floppy into "A" drive, it tells to
please insert a floppy, or it says the disk is not
formatted and when I try to do so it says it cannot
complete the format. Tried a new drive and a different
cable, but still the same errors....

Any Ideas

Thanks Benji...

If you say you tried a new disk and a new cable then there is only one more
thing to blame; The Controller. You can buy a I/O Controller PCI card for
about $50 USD or less.

Is the drive light always on? If so, the floppy cable
may be plugged in backwards. Try reversing it.

XP won't recognize some floppies formatted in older types of Windows.
I don't think it means there's a defect, just that a different
technique was used for reading information. When I was transferring
over files from my Win98 machine, I had most files on floppies that
had been expanded to 1.6M via a software program. Ended up having to
dump everything back and put the programs on 1.44 floppies... and it
still didn't like some of those. For a while I felt that I was trying
to feed a fussy baby.

As for formatting: When XP does at least recognize that a floppy is
present: Have you been formatting in Windows Explorer via
right-clicking the drive and choosing format?
