A couple questions

1) Why do I have a program named alg.exe (Application Layer Gateway service)
running on my computer at all times? According to AnswersThatWork.com, it
shouldn't be since I don't have the Windows XP Firewall running but I do
have ZoneAlarm. I've tried numerous times going to Start > Control Panel >
Administrative Tools > Services and set it to Manual, but it keeps on
starting up anyway. Should I be worried about this or should I just let it
keep starting up even though it's set to Manual?

2) Why do I have a program named msmsgs.exe running on my computer at all
times. I've done the same as above for this one and right now it is
Disabled. Should it be? AnswersThatWork.com says it shouldn't be running
unless OE is running and even when it's shut it's still in the Processes
list of Task Manager.

I know there's one more I'm forgetting, so I'll probably be back to reply to
this message when I remember it. Thanks!!

Regards,
Mark

I remembered now what I wanted to ask before that I forgot ;-) Why when I
click on Start > Run and type in msconfig and then click on the Startup tab
is there something listed named WkDetect.exe? AnswersThatWork.com says they
are against it running on Startup and I am too. If I uncheck it and then
restart the computer it's gone for awhile and then reappears. Any ideas?
Thanks again.

That is associated with microsoft works auto update. Go into the
program preferences and see if you can turn that off.

If you're not using ICS or the firewall then disable alg.exe, rather
than set to manual.

Hi,

I suggest you uninstall and delete Windows Messenger
(msmsgm.exe) from your computer. Go to www.kellys-korner-
xp.com/xp_messenger.htm it will tell you how to get rid
of it, you don`t need it. If you are going to use a
messenging program, then install MSN Messenger, do not use
windows messenger, it can be a big security hole for you.
