9800pro and 4x AGP?

I have an ATI 9800pro on an Intel Blue Mountain 2 D845PEBT2 that runs at
4x max for the AGP port.

My CPU is an Intel 2.53 @ 533MHz FSB and 1 gig of Crucial 333DDR ram.

Will an upgrade, to an 8x AGP motherboard, bring a noticable change in
graphics speed for games like Doom 3, Far Cry, and the upcoming HL2?

I am thinking that will give me the most bang for the buck, as an
upgrade, short of replacing everything?

Thanks

No. There is not much difference in performance of 4X to 8X AGP.

I've heard that the difference is negligible, at best. My setup is similar
to yours and I was considering the upgrade as well. I'm still going to
upgrade, but that's because I want to upgrade my processor as well.

Not as far as 8x vs 4x you won't see much difference, but if you upgrade to
a 800fsb motherboard with 8x and overclocking capability, you can probably
clock your cpu to 2.8Ghz or more and you would see definite improvement from
that.
