80mm CPU Fan for PC-DL

Hi! I recently set up my new system with a PC-DL motherboard and dual
3.06 Xeons. The retail CPU fans were WAY too loud, so I replaced the
heatsink with the Swiftech MCX603-V and used 80mm Vantec Stealth fans
to cool the CPU. Wow! The system is almost silent now -- and my CPU
temperature readings are actually lower than they were with the retail
fans!

The only problem is when I power on the system, I get the error
message "Your CPU Fan Fail." The fans are spinning fine and the
system is cool, so I'm assuming this is some kind of incompatibility
with the fan. (In the Performance - System Monitor it does provide
readings for CPU Fans 1 & 2). I've turned off halting on error
messages, but this seems kinda dangerous to me. Anyone have a (quiet)
replacement fan in mind that won't trigger that error? Should I not
be concerned about it? Thanks!

First, how many leads are there for the CPU fan? A third
wire is typically used for the fan tachometer. No third
wire, no fan speed reading. Second, if the fan is very
efficient and has its own thermal control, it might run
slower than the threshold setting for the fan detection
system; reduce the threshold level to a lower RPM for this
fan.

Thanks for the reply! The Vantec Stealth fan has 3 leads and has an
advertised fan speed of 2050 RPM. The fan speeds do show up in the
System Monitor as averaging around 1400 RPM in low-to-average use
situations, keeping the CPU temps averaging around 38 degrees. So now
to the next part: how do I adjust the "threshold level" to a lower
RPM? The "Your CPU Fan Fail" message comes up at POST, so I assume
this is in the BIOS somewhere but can't find a setting that matches.
Only thing that looks related is the "CPU Q-Fan Temperature" but this
isn't what I really want. Thanks!

Not familiar with this motherboard but if ASUS Probe can
be installed, use it to set the detectiono threshold level
for the CPU fan.

Hi! Thanks for the suggestion. I downloaded ASUS Probe and ran it, setting
my threshold levels as desired. Worked okay for a couple days, but now it
is occasionally reporting that one of my chassis fans and one of my CPU fans
is not working (RPM = 0). Clearly this is not the case, as I can look into
the case and see the referenced fans spinning just fine. Do you know of any
bugs with the Probe app or incompatibility with this mobo? Thanks!

Some fans generate too weak signal to detect
I have 2 Enermax identical fans that my motherboard can't detect.
All other fans I have works fine.
