550 You must SMTP Authenticate before sending

I posted this recently and no one has yet recognized the error message. If
you've received it and resolved the issue it represents, I hope you will
share:

It's occasional, particularly with replies; I click send and th following
message instantly appears in my InBox:
* 550 You must SMTP Authenticate before sending to <email address>

I'm using Microsoft Outlook 2002 SP3
My IPS is Roadrunner.
I have Norton Internet Security 2005 (NIS).

I've removed NIS; no change.
I've changed ISPs; no change.
In Outlook, I've experimented with the "Log on using Secure Password
Authentication" setting and the "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires
authentication" and the problem does not get resolved.

I'm about to uninstall/reinstall Outlook.

Thanks,
George

You have to know which type of authentification used on SMTP Mail server for
sending new mails.
Usually used next option:
v My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentification
v Log on to server before sending

Done that, thanks. Of course, they have no idea.

The point is, I've been using Roadrunner and Outlook 2003 since 2003 without
this problem occurring. Why would it be happening now? Something is
different and it seems to be at my end. I recently upgraded to Norton
Internet Security 2005 and thought perhaps this was the culprit. However, I
removed it from my system and the problem remained. I also removed and
installed Office again.

It's only happening when I reply to a message at the moment. I'm looking
into Outlook settings I might have changed.

It's possible this message doesn't mean what it says it means.

Perplexing.
