HP Pavilion zd7000 notebook
WinXP Home SP2
1 gb RAM
80 gb HD

I just did a fresh install of a retail copy of WinXP Home. To my amazement,
my C drive now shows 54 gb used space!!! The only significant program I
re-loaded was Office 2003.

I went through EVERY folder on the C drive and it simply doesn't add up:

Prog Files: 19 gb
Windows: 2 gb
Docs & Settings: 1.5 gb
Recycle Bin: empty

There is no way that the balance of the folders, including hidden folders,
add up to an additional 30 gb!!! Am I missing something here?

I always assumed a fresh install wiped the drive clean before
re-installation. Am I mistaken? If so, is there a good utility to use next
time so that I really do wipe it clean first? Any input is greatly
appreciated.

Thanks!

Exactly how did you do this "fresh install"? Did you boot from the CD or did
you mistakenly do it from within Windows?

Did you boot up with the CD and deleted all partition(s) there and create
new one(s) then performed full Format and installed the Operating system on
the C:\ Partition?.
Or you install on the recent Partition without formatting?.
HTH.
Let us know.

Hello,

You could get this freeware which will show everything on your C:
drive (or any other drive). May help narrow down the problem:
