4gigs of ram and I'm "out of memory"?!!!!!!

On an HP XW4300 that's brand new (excess inventory) with a P4/3.4 4gigs of
667ram, a WD1600YS Sata primary and a WD1600JD Sata secondary drive that I
use for paging (C: has a 300 meg page file), when trying to move files from
my laptop via a crossover wired between the two, OR using my CD/DVD to copy
large #'s of files to the HD (say 400meg), halfway thru Vista Ult. says its
out of memory!

No virus, spyware, defrag responses please. Vista is SLOW!

If I right click a link in IE7, for example, to open in a new tab, it's like
seconds before vista responds. This sort of behavior is true in explorer, etc.

So two questions:

1. Why out of memory

2. Is it possible to restore all my programs and data and go back to XP

Are you perhaps trying to copy to a FAT32 drive? Is the file you are
copying larger than 4GB? If so, be aware that FAT32 has a 4GB file
size limit, and the confusing error message you get when you try to
create a larger file is as you describe.

You would have exactly the same problem there. It's a FAT32 issue, not
a Vista issue.

But if you wanted to, you could back up all your data and install XP
cleanly. You can not do this with programs, which would have to be
reinstalled from the original media.
