48-bit LBA XPe

Windows XP SP1 includes 48-bit LBA support for ATAPI disk drives. Is
this included in the service pack for XPe and not enabled? Is it
possible to get the 48-bit LBA support for XPe, preferrably with an
update or component?

I don't have any problems with disks 160/250Gb. XPeSP1 with default
settings.

Kris,

I don't have problems with my 160G hard support on XPe. The atapi.sys driver
in XPe SP1 is the same as in XP SP1 (as MS stated).

If you need more info on 48 bit LBA support under XPe, look here
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q303013.
Also, this KBA
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;331958 will give you
the latest ATAPI drivers for XP (and XPe).

As the best source for 48 bit LBA support on XP, I think, it would be
http://www.48bitlba.com/winxp.htm.

KM,

The driver version for atapi.sys in the image is 5.1.2600.1106. The
KB article says that 5.1.2600.1135 is required. 331958 does not want
to install on the target machine (and this is after it's built, so
it's undesirable anyways). Why would I not have the correct driver
version?

Thanks!

Kris,

Although the article is a little bit confusing, it does not require you to
have 1135 version of atapi.sys to get 48 bit LBA support. I think 1106 (SP1)
version of the driver does support 48 bit LBA mode.
However, it is still better for you to get the latest driver in to your
image. You don't have to install the 331958 package on your image but rather
open and extract all the files (and registry entries, if the package has
them) from it on to your dev machine. Then you will need to add the file to
your image (replacing the old ones) with your custom component or TD Extra
Files option.
