401 Authorization Required when trying to access Linksys setup

I currently have 2 PC's hooked up to a Linksys BEFSR41v3 router. Both are
running XP Home SP2 with IE6. Both have full internet functionality.
Recently, I tried to access the Linksys setup via 192.168.1.1 and input my
password (which I am positive is correct), and the "Connect To" box instantly
reappeared. Figuring I incorrectly my password, I entered it again. After 3
tries I received the red 401 Authorization Required page. After several
failed attempts, I logged on to the other PC, which is on the same router. I
was able to access the router via 192.168.1.1 without any problems. I reset
the router, updated firmware, reset password, made sure all was well from the
other PC and then returned to the problem PC and tried accessing the router
again, no luck. I did notice, however, that after the failed login if I hit
refresh the linksys utility screen appears normally, but in order to navigate
further, I am prompted for my password again, leading once again to the 401.

I have tried--

lowering security settings in IE6, deleting IE temp files and cookies,
resetting the router numerous times successfully, re-flashing the routers
firmware successfully, pinging the router successfully, tried different ports
on the router successfully, turning off Norton AV/Firewall, contacting
Linksys support, who couldn't help... I am lead to believe this is a browser
or security issue that I may have missed?

Any help greatly appreciated, thanks.

start/run, type:
HH mk:@MSITStore:%windir%\Help\key.chm::/key_howto_delete.htm

Click the link to stored passwords.

go to start/Help and Support, and type into the search box:

delete Stored User Names and Passwords

okay, deleted the 'Stored User Names and Passwords', then went to sign in to
msn messenger, which I could log into as usual. Then tried 192.168.1.1-- 401
after three attempts. I hit refresh, and the setup page appeared. I tried
to navigate, make changes, etc., but was prompted again for my password...
401.

Unsure what can be done at this point...

It looks like you forgot to mention a wireless connection. Rightclick the LAN
icon in Network Connections, properties, "Authentication" tab, uncheck 'use
IEEE 802.1x...."

Nope, both PC's are wired to the router-- sorry I should have mentioned that
in my first post. I still tried unchecking "IEEE 802.1x...." but that didn't
make any changes. I've tried nearly everything I can think of-- and I can
still access the Setup page for the router from the other computer with no
problems, so it has to be the PC, nothing at all to do with the router, I
would imagine. I usually access the router all the time for gaming, etc.,
and then one day I just couldn't. I made no major changes, didn't install
any new software, service packs, or anything like that to trigger this
problem. stumped...
