3rd party Defrag or Vista?

I installed DiskKeeper with Beta2 and then installed PerfectDisk with RC1 as
DiskKeeper wasn't set for this version when released.
I know DK is compatible now but I would like to know if it is best for us to
use Vista's own defrag despite the lack of GUI (worst bit)

I have DiskKeeper downloaded again but don't know if I should install or
does Vista know best where the files should be?
I use O&O with XP but am totally unsure what is the best setup for Vista to
let a third party move the files or just keep to the 'pictureless' Vista one.
I would appreciate advice on this please. I have just used Vista's own
basically no fancy cmd lines or anything. I would like to maintain the OS but
don't want to install if the advice is to keep with Vista's own.

It is all up to your personal wants. Do you want to see the defrag as it
works. You "must" have something better to do with your time.

I use PerfectDisk. I start it and minimize the program. It does a more
thorough job. Is it better in the long run? Who knows!

But I "want" it.

I have lots to do with my time :) just when it finishes I would like to see a
comparison to make sure it has done something. I don't sit and watch the
moving blocks/lines ;)

I know it was always best to use a 3rd party as XP's normally didn't defrag
as thoroughly. Possibly the same with Vista although I don't think anyone
will know for sure at least until the full release arrives. Thanks for your
reply it's the weekend cleaning time I think.

Hi,

If you want to "see a comparison" use "defrag x: -w -v" (without quotes of
course) at the command prompt. (where x is a letter of drive you want to
defragment). It`s not fancy, but you can see "numbers". :)

Perfectdisk has a free beta of their defragger (best IMHO) but for 32 bit
Vista alone. Won't support 64 bit until Vista RTM.
