I'm using Excel 2002 SP3 on a Win2K Machine.

I found a curious error message while typing some short-hand notes into a
cell. Does the symbol "@" carry some significance in Excel?

For example, the statement produced the error message was:
@ the

The error message was the one about "The formula you typed contains an
error." . . .

Is this a bug or does "@" have some significance?

@ is how Lotus 1-2-3 formulas start and Excel graciously assumes you're a
convert if you use it. You can work around this by either starting with an
apostrophe (which does not appear in the cell) or format the cell with the
Text number format.
