This XP neophyte is wondering whether the fix described in
KB article 330909 should be installed. I get the
"Insufficient..." message after restore from hibernation
several times, running SP2. It's not clear at
http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?kbid=330909#appliesto
that the hotfix should be a applied to SP2, which "was
enhanced to reduce the occurrence of this behavior." Should it?

Can you post a copy of the exact text of the error message you are
received. If it is an error report from Event viewer better still.

330909 is included in SP2

In Event Viewer there are hard-disk error messages
associated with resume and user switching. I suspect those
are the cause of the insufficient resources message. Thank
you for steering me to Event Viewer.

Gerry --

I'm using a 145GB drive with about 29GB free. On the Dell
hard drive forum I've been directed to MSKB article 303013.

"This article describes the Microsoft Windows XP Service
Pack 1 (SP1) 48-bit Logical Block Addressing (LBA) support
for ATA Packet Interface (ATAPI) disk drives that can
increase the capacity of your hard disk to more than the
current 137 gigabyte (GB) limit."

What's not clear to me in the article is whether the problem
is fixed in SP2 and, therefore, does not require what's
suggested in Q30313.

In the article atapi.sys on an SP1 system must be version
5.1.2600.1135.
The XP SP2 I'm running has atapi.sys version 5.1.2600.2180.

Dell is recommending I apply the Maxtor Big Drive Enabler at
http://www.maxtor.com/portal/site/M...tware Downloads/ATA Hard Drives&downloadID=11
but I hesitate to do so.

Too much input on the problem I think. Can you help sort it out?
