3-d screen saver is too slow

screen saver is to go fairly fast, but response is very
slow>to almost no movement
 
You mentioned you're trying to use a 3-D screen saver. If this is one of the
3D screen savers built into Windows, that means it's using OpenGL. The fact
that it's slow on your machine can indicate:
- you don't have a real "graphics driver" installed
- your graphics card is just slow

What graphics card do you have? If it's a recent one, you should be able to
get drivers from the manufacturer's website.
