I recently brought a latptop computer, I update the memory from 1G to
2G. However, the system information says I have 2G memeory, but the
task manager says that only 1G of memory is in use.
Windows XP with s2.
Dual core.
ATI 1600.
Asus laptop.

Just wonder what the problem is? How can I let windows use 2G memory?

thank you

You don't "let windows use 2GB". It uses what the BIOS tells it that the
computer has.
First of all, you should check the motherboard to insure that the added
memory is properly seated.
Next, you should determine if the BIOS can recognize all of the memory. If
not, then you may have a bad stick of memory.
Finally, after you have thoroughly determined that the BIOS can see all of
the memory, you boot the system to see what XP says it has.
Even after all that, you need to download one of the various memory test
programs for a thorough test.

Within XP System information says it recognizes 2 GB, correct?. In task
manager does it show 2 GB, and just 1GB in use? Depending on what programs
you run, it might not need to use 2GB.

Open more applications at the same time and open up as many files as
possible so you can use all the 2 gig of memory.
