Is anyone using a 2500+ Mobile Athlon XP in the asus a7n8x-e mobo? If
i just drop it in will it work straight away? Does it run at 166x11
the same as the desktop version? Also has anyone got it to run at
3200+ speed, 200x11? Im using kingston pc3200 ram so that shouldnt be
a problem..

I am using one in an Asus A7N8X de luxe (rev 1.04). It's not multiplier
locked, so I have run mine at above XP3200 speeds - e.g. 2.22Ghz (185 x12).
I can not do 200FSB - nearest so far is 190 x 11 (having gone back to BIOS
1004 from BIOS 1007).

I have not really pushed it yet.

Kingston is good, but not the uber-best for oc'ing. The 2500+xp-m will
default to its stock speed which is 1.83mhz or such.
I've got the a7n8x-x and doing a comfortable 2.3mhz (xp3400+?) with only
pc2100. Corsair ddr400 will take it up and above of 2.6-7mhz WITH
watercooling. But I'm happy with it as it is with only air.
Mobiles are great chips.

Thanks guys,

Will it require a large cooler to get upto 3200+ speeds? Also, could
the power saving features built into mobile cpus mean that it will run
slower than a standard desktop cpu, and will it run at a lower
voltage?

I have the revision 2 of the asus board that should work at 200 FSB,
but i dont want to change cpus for no real gain in performance.
Currently using a barton 2600+ overclocked to 189FSBx11.5 giving me a
clock speed of 2.18Ghz.

Or am i best waiting until a 'real' 3200+ drops a bit more in price?

regards

I'm running one in the older DLX v2.0 board at about 2.4Ghz. And it
runs so cool. Getting another tomorrow from newegg for $91USD.

Its up to you, but personally I think theres no reason to buy a 'real' 3200+
;) xp-m's are unlocked and due to their default low voltage, can be
overclocked like mothers. So far for me theyve proven stable up to 2.7ghz,
which is a speed a 'real' 3200+ would probably become unstable at, even tho
its a small clock to that chip.
I'd recommend getting a decent HeatSink&Fan - something copper. Perhaps a
Volcano or something and have proper in-front and out-back air circulation.
