I HAD WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL INSTALLED ON MY PREVIOUS
COMPUTER. I DON'T HAVE MY BOX THAT THE CD CAME IN OR THE
INSTRUCTION MANUAL OR ANYTHING IT GOT LOST IN THE RECENT
MOVE. I HAD COPIED THE WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL BEFORE I
SOLD MY OLD COMPUTER. I DON'T KNOW WHO HAS MY COMPUTER
NOW I JUST RAN AN ADD AND SOMEONE CAME BY AND PAID ME CASH
FOR IT. NOW I AM REINSTALLING WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL
FROM MY COPIED CD BECAUSE I LOST THE ORIGINAL CD AND BOX
AND INSTRUCTIONS AND I JUST GET THE INSTALLATION STARTED
AND IT ASKS FOR MY 25 CHARACTER VOLUME LICENSE PRODUCT KEY
AND I DON'T KNOW IT. WHAT DO I DO? IS THERE A NUMBER OR
ANYTHING THAT YOU CAN GIVE ME OR AM I SUPPOSED TO GO PAY
ANOTHER $200 FOR A NEW CD?! I HOPE I AM NOT SUPPOSED TO
GO BUY A NEW ONE SINCE I HAVE ALREADY PURCHASED IT IN THE
PAST. THIS WINDOWS 98 THAT THIS COMPUTER HAS DOES NOT
SUPPORT MY 512MB SDRAM CHIP SO I AM HOPING YOU CAN JUST
GIVE ME A NUMBER OR TELL ME WHAT I CAN DO. THANK YOU FOR
YOUR SUPPORT AND THE TIME YOU GUYS OR GALS PUT INTO
READING AND ANSWERING THESE MESSAGES. MY NAME IS ROBERT.

You sold the computer with Windows XP?
You do not have the original CD?
You do not have any documentation?
You effectively sold Windows XP with the computer.
You need to buy another copy, upgrade will do since you apparently
have Windows 98.

Also, please do not post to newsgroups in ALL CAPS.
ALL CAPS is considered shouting and rude.

I tried, I now have a headache. I think he's asking how to be a thief.

NOW NOW, HE COULD JUST BE MISUNDERSTOOD AND WE COULD BE READING INTO...

Nah - you are right, even trying to type that way hurts my head.

Robert:

Either shell out the bucks for a new CD or add the
following entry to your Windows 98 system.ini:
[vcache]
MinFileCache=51200
MaxFileCache=56320

The new setting should make Windows 98 behave with your
512MG memory stick...hopefully.
