2007 Upgrade removes categories?

S

SilverICE

I have a customer who has added several custom categories to his Master
Category List while using Outlook 2003. It seems that when he was upgraded
to Outlook 2007 he has lost of the customizations. Any ideas on how to
upgrade to 2007 and keep these new categories? Any way to export/import the
Master Category List?

Everything I've come across references a .pst file, but we're an Exchange
shop and don't utilize pst files. Any ideas?

With OL03, the Master Category List (MCL) was stored in the registry. Does
your customer still have OL03 installed on a computer with that MCL? If so,
he can assign all of the categories to an item (e.g. an e-mail), move that
e-mail to the computer with OL07, right click the top folder (personal
folder or mailbox), choose Properties, and click Upgrade to Color
Categories.

If he doesn't have OL03 installed, he can manually export the categories:
Open the registry editor, navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Categories and
click File/Export. Then use Category Manager (for a download see the link in
my signature) to import that file in OL07.

did he ever upgrade to color categories? If so and if they category was used
it should be added to the color category list.
