2007 templates for .doc documents?

Sandy Ellis

I have several Word 2003 templates that I would like to open in Word 2007 and
resave as 2007 templates so they are all consistent. I have already set my
default save format to Word 97-2003 format. So...if I use a 2007 template
(dotm) to create a document and Save it, can I assume it will not cause any
problems for Word 97-2003 users to open these files? Or, must I base a 2003
(or prior) document on a 2003 template?

Hi Sandy,

If you want to create a template for prior versions you'll need to save as a Word 97-2003 template. The compatibility pack for Word
2000 thru Word 2003 users can open Word .docm or .docx documents but not .dotx or .dotm templates.
