HI,
I recently posted a thread to ask about access 2007 synchronisation.
I have users who work away from the office on laptops and would need to
synchronise data when returning to the office.

I was returned this quote

"Jet Replication is still supported in the MDB format under A2K7. The
new ACCDB format does not support replication (or user-level
security). "

Does this mean I cannot have synchronisation between databases?
Do I need to remove office 2007 and reinstall office 2003 where I can have
synchronisation?
Is there a way for office 2007 to synchronise in this way?

Any help would be most appreciated

Regards

John

That would depend on whether your 2007 databases are using the new ACCDB format. You can still run the older .mdb format
in 2007, and if your databases are still in that format then you can use replication. If you build a new database, and
use the new ACCDB format then no, you cannot use replication - it's no longer supported for that format.
Do I need to remove office 2007 and reinstall office 2003 where I can have
synchronisation?
No.

Not with the ACCDB format ...
Any help would be most appreciated

Scott,
Thanks for the reply.
Yes, the database is in the new format ACCDB.
I find this ridiculous that Microsoft have created a new Office system which
does not include replication, more people work away from the office than
ever before.
Thanks Microsoft, I just wasted money and time. I now need to reinstall
office 2003 and re-design my database.

Microsoft wants you to use a SharePoint server for synchronization
of ACCDBs.

Er, I don't think it's Microsoft's fault that you didn't do your
homework before creating your database in a version that couldn't do
what you wanted. The dropping of replication hasn't exactly been
kept a secret by Microsoft -- it's clearly indicated in all the
documentation about A2K7.

And, BTW, is it not the case that you can just convert your database
to A2K3 format?

No, you do not.

A2007 defaults to creating accdb databases... but it lets you create A2003
format .mdb files, edit and work with them, *and replicate them*. You're not
obligated to take the default.
